Diary of a Pregnant Mum – part 5

We’ve been following journalist Deirdre McCarthy through her pregnancy and the big day has finally arrived, albeit two weeks late! As cramps turned into full labour in the early hours she was in no doubt that the baby was on the way. Deirdre had been considering not getting pain relief but on the night labour lasted just an hour so the pain relief was not an option – Deirdre tell us of her experiences on the day and her plans to be out walking with baby in tow very soon.

Diary of a pregnant Mum – part 4

It’s week 42 of journalist Deirdre McCarthy’s pregnancy and there is still no sign of the new arrival! She would like the baby to come along in the next week as he or she will get bigger and heavier over time. Deirdre had pain relief during her labour with her first two children but this time is planning not to have any pain relief, although she admits it may be hard to say no if it is offered during a contraction!

Diary of a Pregnant Mum – Part 3

It is week 36 of Deirdre McCarthy’s pregnancy and she is back with us to tell us all about it! Unfortunately, she is once again experiencing pain with a slipped joint and is on the crutches. For her the most important thing is not to aggravate the joint as it may cause implications at the birth which is expected in about four week’s time she hopes!   Deirdre has a sneaking suspicion that her third child may hang on for another six weeks yet and the waiting game is hard for her with so many others things to balance.

Diary of a Pregnant Mum – Part 2

Journalist Deirdre McCarthy is at the 32 week mark in her third pregnancy. Here she tells Aileen O Meara that the growth spurt of the baby in the last three weeks has been dramatic with the baby now at a very healthy estimated four pounds. With getting bigger, back pain and tiredness comes part and parcel so Deirdre is starting to take iron supplements to increase her energy as the baby begins to kick!

Pregnancy is a long road and here at Vhi Health Club we decided to follow an expectant mother to track the highs and lows of that journey. We start here at week 29 with broadcaster Deirdre McCarthy. Deirdre is expecting her third child and is finding this pregnancy very different. Deirdre talks about suffering from severe back pain as she tried to mix being a busy Mum and working in her seventh month.
