Becoming a Grandparent

As Bertie Ahern comes to terms with his new role as a grandfather with the arrival of Rocco and Jay, parenting expert John Sharry is back with us giving advice to new grandparents on their new special role. John’s main advice is to above all enjoy the experience as grandchildren often have a very special bond with grandparents through the years. The role is one of support also for the parents and grandparents need to understand this role.

Quitting Smoking : 6 months later

As her new years resolution Majella Fitzpatrick gave up her 20 a day smoking habit. At the time Majella was quietly confident and planning a healthier lifestyle. Now six months later Majella has completed her planned half marathon and has been very successful with her resolution. Listen as Majella explains her weakness of the cigarette completing the holiday picture of sun, sea and sand.

Diary of a Pregnant Mum – part 5

We’ve been following journalist Deirdre McCarthy through her pregnancy and the big day has finally arrived, albeit two weeks late! As cramps turned into full labour in the early hours she was in no doubt that the baby was on the way. Deirdre had been considering not getting pain relief but on the night labour lasted just an hour so the pain relief was not an option – Deirdre tell us of her experiences on the day and her plans to be out walking with baby in tow very soon.

Exam Stress – Concentration Tips

After all the study and the long hours, there are two hurdles that often stress students on the day of an exam. First is a lack of concentration. Stress expert Karen Belshaw talks us through a simple visualization technique to calm those nerves and increase concentration on the job at hand. The second hurdle is time management. Karen suggests that knowing the number of questions before and a little preparation to allocate time can reduce stress – and always leave 15 minutes at the end to polish up answers!

Pedal your way to fitness

Cycling is a great way to exercise, it doesn’t require driving anywhere to train, it’s easy as most of us have cycled as children, it’s cheap and most importantly it’s a great cardio vascular work out. Out fitness expert Philip Phelan sings the praises of cycling saying that with a few 20 minute sessions a week your fitness will improve very quickly leaving you looking better, feeling better and more efficient!

Diary of a pregnant Mum – part 4

It’s week 42 of journalist Deirdre McCarthy’s pregnancy and there is still no sign of the new arrival! She would like the baby to come along in the next week as he or she will get bigger and heavier over time. Deirdre had pain relief during her labour with her first two children but this time is planning not to have any pain relief, although she admits it may be hard to say no if it is offered during a contraction!
